The future of fashion and retail lies in the hands of brands and companies who have committed to implementing sustainable practices and operations. Dutch sustainable hanger company Arch & Hook (A&H) has partnered with the Conscious Fashion Campaign (CFC), in collaboration with the United Nations office for Partnerships, to work together towards a more sustainable future.

The Conscious Fashion Campaign engages the fashion industry to facilitate collective action towards the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The campaign coordinates advocacy, education and engagement of fashion industry stakeholders to implement responsible business practices that are mindful of social, economic and environmental impact.

Arch & Hook is committed to actions that drive awareness on the importance of sustainable practices for fashion, retail, and beyond. The brand has accordingly adopted goals fourteen(1) and fifteen(2) of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. Created as a blueprint to create a better and more sustainable future for all, the SDGs call on governments, businesses and civil societies to strive to achieve sustainability within major challenges that affect our planet and livelihoods.

As their first initiative together, Arch & Hook created The Sustainability Salon Series, a monthly (currently, online) panel discussion, focusing on the intersection of sustainability and successful business practices. As a partner, the Conscious Fashion Campaign supports by sourcing diverse and expert thought leaders for each panel discussion. The CFC’s founder, Kerry Bannigan moderates the series. The next event will focus on Sustainable Legacies, and Lucie Brigham from the United Nations Office for Partnerships will join the panel.

Bannigan comments: “Now more than ever the industry must be proactive on the implementation and accomplishment of sustainable systems. Arch & Hook understands how the Sustainable Development Goals can serve as a framework to guide and shape businesses towards a fairer future for all. Together we will continue to raise awareness and facilitate a collective call to action for industry stakeholders.”

The journey to creating a sustainable company and circular products is one that takes commitment and a deep understanding of the industry, and a platform to educate. Current times are posing exceptional challenges for businesses when it comes to sustainability. It’s more important than ever to assess the way business is conducted, and how to operate more sustainably.

“As a brand with sustainability at its core we feel a great responsibility to keep learning and improving our practices. The UN Sustainable Development Goals form a pragmatic and purpose driven system that helps us set, define and monitor our goals and practices to help shape a smarter and better future. In partnership with the Conscious Fashion Campaign we hope to educate and inspire people and corporations alike to become more aware and make more conscious decisions,” concludes Gertjan Meijer, Arch & Hook CCO.

Arch & Hook creates sustainable alternatives to the standard clothing hanger, one of the most overlooked items in retail and fashion operations. Fashion is one of the most wasteful industries in the world, with an estimated 150 billion garments produced globally every year . Millions of these garments are shipped on single use, unrecyclable plastic hangers, which take more than 1,000 years to degrade. archandhook.com
