On Friday, 1 February, 2019, The Library and the United Nations Office for Partnerships will host The Study Hall Sustainable Fashion Summit, the third in the critically-acclaimed conference series to be held in collaboration with Parsons School of Design, Fashion Revolution and Conscious Fashion Campaign. The themes that will be explored are positive environmental impact and human rights, as exemplified by the slogan “ Good for the Earth & Good for the People,” with a focus on the new material revolution for the Sustainable Development Goals.

The half day event will gather industry experts, designers, scientists, and UN representatives to inspire collaborations to advance the progress of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and move the needle toward a sustainable future in fashion.

“There wasn’t anything like Study Hall before to offer the fashion industry insights from an academic and research perspective. Our first Study Hall was such a great success that we turned it into a series focusing on specific themes to dive even deeper into solutions and inspire the industry toward a sustainable future”, states, Céline Semaan, Founder, The Study Hall.

This event is powered by adidas, G-Star Raw, Fair Trade USA. With special thanks to MIT Media Lab,

Swarovski, Fair Trade Coalition and Tesla.

The event will be structured around the following three themes: Circular Fashion, Sustainability, and Innovation. Through these discussions, the Sustainable Fashion Summit aims to:

● Provide a platform to highlight success stories related to fashion, sustainability, innovation, and social justice;

● Share SDG-related knowledge tools and platforms;

● Map out opportunities for action and collaboration for civil society and industry leaders and mobilize new connections and partnerships related to sustainable fashion.

“At adidas we have a clear and guiding belief: through sport, we have the power to change lives. We are excited to be a part of this initiative because it helps us give voice to the creators, the changemakers, the innovators advocating for a better future and turning our belief into action.” Ayesha Martin, Director, Global Purpose, adidas.

“At G-Star RAW, we always say: if we still want to be here as a denim brand in 20, 50 or even 100 years from now, it is crucial for us to think innovatively not only about how our products look and feel, but also about the impact they have on people and the planet. We future-proof our denim by looking at sustainability as a source of inspiration to innovate our products as well as incorporating it in everything we do. This is a journey full of learnings and for this edition of the Study Hall in support of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, we want to inspire others by sharing our knowledge & learnings in order to scale and accelerate the positive change.” Adriana Galijasevic, Denim and Sustainability Expert, G-Star Raw.
